Winterize your sprinkler system details

Turning off the irrigation system for winter is typically easy.  On most system the valves  are typically deep enough underground that they don’t freeze, and most residential systems use atmospheric vacuum breaks.  If that’s your system, turning off for the winter is easy.  All you have to do is turn the timer to the off position.   Not sure what type of system you have.  Here are a couple of pictures of typical residential systems.  Notice that there are no valves or knobs on the backflow device.  Also notice that the pipes are galvanized steel.   All you have to do is turn the timer to the off position.  To be extra safe, if it’s an option, you might want to unplug the timer from the wall electrical outlet, or, close the emergency shut off valve.

Here are some examples of backflow systems that would require additional steps to properly winterize.  (If your not sure, you can always call the office 792-3600).
